Event Description

We lost 5 days to our schedule for launch!: Thunderbird 2 - Mission Status

But still hoping we can make the time back from my extended week in Nevada at the Mad Machinist Matt MacMurfin's workshop getting our steering and drive coupling components made...

The biggest work outstanding is now painting the ship's bottom (requiring grinding and treating the steel for paint, then the anti-fouling paint we have already received), and getting the propeller shafts in and aligned.

Hope you can all help, we're working on the boat every day now! Please RSVP and leave a message about when you can come along to help...!
Our CAUSE is to save lives after coastal disasters and provide humanitarian aid.

To achieve that, we are building a purpose-designed rescue vessel that can carry food, water and medical supplies and doctors.

Thank you all so much for helping out over last weekend! We'll be doing the same again this weekend if you haven't got anything better to do...  Tomorrow we receive the drive couplings for our fantastic diesel-electric propulsion system, so we'll be running cables to the drive motors and doing some carpentry to make a bulkhead and box in the components, as well as prep the propeller shaft struts with angle-grinders ready for the bottom paint - the final run to launching!

- Those of you who would love to learn to weld will get a chance - we'll use the MIG welder to build a simple angle-iron frame in the midships cabin for the shower base.

- We'll paint the final coat on the topsides of the boat all the way round. That will leave us free to commence the painting of the underwater steel.

As usual, we'll have drinkies and food after the work session!

SIGN UP HERE IF YOU'RE LOCAL AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP!! We are working on the boat 7 days per week, just call Captain Ray on 408-256-1290 to make sure someone's at the boat if you're coming.

Hi Sean, Stuart and I will be here all day, possible Matt too. Projects of the moment: painting the steel and bedding down all the seacocks for the heads, sinks, bilge pumps and generator exhausts (quite a few) and cutting a hole for the raw water intake standipe, which I hope to get welded in place. Not just your average grinding and painting, but real systems installations!

Cheers,

Ray

Anyone going to be out there Friday?

Thanks Mathew Hock, Evelyne Dubuc-Dumas, Matt Chanal and Stuart Thompson for today's work, these guys were drilling and deburring holes into the dark this evening so that we can install the seacocks and deck-fills that Marelon donated, nice stuff, looks fantastic! That'll be the three sink drains, four outlets for the generator water/gas separators, sewage drain and deck-fill caps for fresh water, fuel and the sewage pump-out - a lot of good work!

Thanks,

Captain Ray

Hi Sean, I completely agree. There should be Matt and Stuart working, as well as me, so at any time this week we will definitely have 2 or more. Cheers, Ray

I will make it over sometime this week. Anyone else attending so we can double up our efforts? As someone who has worked on the boats for some time, you can accomplish much more having pairs of people to team up together.
