Hi, We're a 65 ft sailboat with a crew of 6-8 people currently in Seattle area soon (end of November) to be heading down the west coast towards the Caribbean. We're looking to pick up relief/building supplies somewhere along the way and bring down to the Virgin Islands or anywhere in the Caribbean that was affected and needs help. We would like to bring supplies and help rebuild/ with anything we can.
Also if anybody has access to a watermaker we could bring down there to help get them fresh water?
What supplies are needed, where can we pick them up, who can we talk to? Thanks!
Hello Ronald, looks like you missed the Baja Ha-Ha (haha!)
I'm wondering where would be best for you to accept cargo? I'm completely confident we can find you donated and in some cases purchased cargo out of donations to IRG, but there are logistics. I'm guessing you won't want to fill up on the left coast? Here in our East Coast base in Florida we have a warehouse with supplies that can fill most boats headed into the Caribbean.
Here is a good way to look at supplies priorities that is updated regularly depending on your destination. Here in Florida for the next few months we are working on continued shipments to remote areas that generally get little aid: http://www.greenshoot.org/needs-list-country.html
We have a relationship with Rainman watermakers and could work on maybe a discounted unit for your boat. Obviously the big issue is having the right power and Rainman have a self-contained gas-powered unit.
