Yesterday, Dr. Peter Perez, IRG's Medical Director, joined TANDEMEER to support our relations with local hospitals to set up a line of donated medical supplies for our mission in the Caribbean. We have a lot of repairs to make, including almost all the potable water, bilge and sump pumps, the invertor blew up (!), our starboard main jib sheet winch shattered a gear (pretty important), all our supply of engine belts were shredded or stretched, bulbs blew out and of course we have a lot of other general repairs to make - none of which is unusual when recommissioning a boat that's been on the hard for a while.
The cruise from Morehead City to Fort Lauderdale was conducted in strong winds with reefed sails, sometimes no more than a handkerchief-size of the roller-furled jib showing, very lumpy seas and hard work at the wheel 24 hours a day because we don't have an autopilot. Overall, very hard cold work in the cockpit, but the relief on reaching warm weather was palpable!
