Thunderbird 1 is now registered in the Baja Ha-Ha with four crew, Jack (Captain), Jenni, Evelyne and Leah. We can add two more crew over the next month and I leave that to the Captain from this point onwards. Crew, I now officially hand it over to you four to coordinate and think of everything that needs to be done. Here's the official schedule, but I copy the important parts of it for IRG at the bottom of this update. All, please read the Notice of Rally.

Waivers - please all crew sign, scan and email to me at Jack, you need to sign the Skipper's Waiver. Crew, please sign the Crew Waiver

Crew photos - this is officially required - please, ASAP, email to me high resolution pictures of yourselves, preferably at least one on Thunderbird 1, but send multiple pictures. I have to collect them and send them to Latitude 38 as part of the entry package.

I repeat from the Baja Ha-Ha website: "Please read this Safety Statement thoroughly: The Baja Ha-Ha is a high-risk activity both on shore and at sea, and therefore each person must accept full responsibility for his/her safety. Everyone must understand they cannot expect any outside assistance from anyone or any government agency during the Ha-Ha. All entries must be self-reliant. Furthermore, medical care is virtually non-existent along the route. Please accept this statement before going any further."

I'm very proud of you all, I know you'll be a great crew and spread the word for IRG, sign up IRG Reserve boats, and generally be the best ambassadors you can be.

Captain Ray

It's official, Thunderbird 1 is registered number 130 out of a fleet of 131! Also, IRG Reserve vessel Kind Blue ( is registered number 115.

Our plan is to call all Yacht Clubs along the passage, especially in the Santa Barbara Channel, to offer a presentation (and request a free docking space for the night!). At a minimum, I hope we can book the below list. We have a nice presentation that can be done from a laptop to projector, and we can print out flyers. We also have a SQUARE account and can collect  credit card payments by smartphone.

  1. At least four San Francisco Bay Area YCs (while sea trialling in the Bay with crew)
  2. Santa Cruz
  3. Monterey
  4. Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo
  5. Santa Barbara
  6. Ventura
  7. Long Beach
  8. Catalina
  9. San Diego
