Last Sept. I set sail with a friend on my Sabre 30, Trillium, from Portland, ME. I had a great adventure with a bit of every kind of weather except snow. We sailed by day and varied the nights with anchoring, moorings, and marina slips. Down through Cape Cod Canal to Long Island Sound, East River through NYC, Sandy Hook to Cape May on the outside, through the canal to Delaware Bay, up the Delaware to the C&D Canal, and on to Annapolis. I put my boat up for winter on the Eastern Shore and I continued on a Beneteau 45, Ariosa, to Boot Key Harbor. We went down the Chesapeake through the VA Cut and intracoastal to Beaufort, NC. From there we sailed on the outside --- usually 2 days and a night followed by one or more nights at a marina. With Capt. Michael Pittinger and Jim Huber, a twice circum-navigator, it was an incredible experience.
It was in Boot Key Harbor in April that I had the good fortune to meet and chat with Capt. Sequoia Sun on Tandemeer. I had been looking for the opporunity to do some kind of a mission and IRG sounded like something that I would like to do and think I could offer some valuable help both in crewing on the boat and working on projects, especially at Ille a Vach. I am hoping that a slot might be open to me.
